The Dept of Medicine, AIIMS, Nagpur observed the World Heart day on 29th September, in a very unique manner this year. Due to COVID 19 pandemic it was not possible to have large scale screening camp or any program related to mass gathering. Incidence of coronary artery disease is on a rise in India. COVID 19 has a very strong association with cardiac involvement, and it has further accelerated the problem. Hence, Facility of 2 D Echocardiography which is a non-invasive investigation was started at AIIMS for the patients at a very nominal cost. Currently, Department of Medicine has faculty who have specialized in doing Echocardiography. Dr. Rajashree Khot and Dr Sunita Kumbhalkar would be performing this test. Director Maj Gen Vibha Dutta SM has called upon patients to avail this facility.
Another unique activity ‘My Fit Heart – challenge was conducted for the faculty and the staff of the Institute. The participants were asked to walk the ramp of the OPD from ground floor to 5th Floor, anytime in the afternoon and note their timings. Over 80 faculty and staff participated. Prizes were given to best 2 timings in different groups. This activity was widely appreciated enjoyed by one and all.
The program was a great success due to support by Medical Superintendent Dr Manish Shrigiriwar. The Faculty of Department of Medicine; Dr Rajashree Khot, Dr Amol Dube, Dr Anant Pilawan, Dr Nitish Sawan, Dr Shweta Borkar and staff of department; Rashmi Tembhurne, Vishwajita, Imran Sheikh all worked hard for the success of the program.
