All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur was ceremoniously dedicated to the nation at the hands of the hon’ble Prime Minster of India, Shri Narendra Modi, today, the 11th of December, 2022. The event was graced by the august presence of Chief Minister, Maharashtra, Shri Eknath Shinde; Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India, Shri Nitin Gadkari; Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis; Minister of State, Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar and other esteemed dignitaries. During the program, the hon’ble prime minister unveiled the plaque of the Institute followed by a visit through the ‘Milestone Exhibition Gallery’ which showcased the various achievements of the institute since its establishment. The prime mister was then shown the AIIMS Nagpur model, by Director, AIIMS Nagpur, Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta, SM, who walked him through the institute’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and the world-class clinical and academic facilities available. 08 MBBS students of AIIMS Nagpur, 04 each from Batch 2019 and 2020 had the privilege to meet and interact with the hon’ble prime Minister during the Metro ride from Zero Mile station to Khapri. They were ecstatic to have been provided with this opportunity to interact with the prime minister in person and described it as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ memorable experience. Each student hailing from different parts of India introduced themselves and shared about their experience at AIIMS Nagpur and the monumental milestones the institute has achieved to date. ‘A good doctor is one who treats all patients with compassion and empathy, and such should be one’s demeanour, that every patient one treats, remembers them with

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur is one among the four AIIMS announced during the budget speech 2014-15 under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). The Foundation stone for the institute was laid by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and other esteemed dignitaries on 14th April 2017. Spanning over 150 acres of land, AIIMS, Nagpur, located at the very center of India, caters to a wide patient population from across Maharashtra, including the rural tribal belts of Gadchiroli, Gondia, Melghat, and Chandrapur, as well as the bordering states of Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The Multi-storied OPD spanning over 32,520 sq. m houses the OPD of 18 broad clinical specialities (including Neonatology, Transfusion medicine, and Radiotherapy) and 13 Super-speciality services such as Burns and Plastic surgery, Cardiology, Cardio-thoracic surgery, Medical Hematology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nuclear Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, Surgical Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology and Urology. The OPD services operational since September 2019, has an average footfall of 1800-2000 patients/day and has catered to over 66 lakhs patients till date. The IPD Complex replete with start-of-the-art, spacious wards, is equipped with 24 modular OTs, and Medical, Surgical, Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The 500-bedded hospital has provided inpatient services to 21,079 patients till date. Trauma and Emergency services including laboratory and radiological services are available round the clock. Fulfilling the primary objective of AIIMS of providing affordable tertiary healthcare services, all patients belonging to the ‘Below Poverty Line’ category avail services free of cost at the institute. The Hospital also provides a resting place with meals for the caregivers or attendants of admitted patients and respite for those travelling miles for OPD services, at the ‘Dharamshala’ free of cost. Over 5,000 patients have also benefitted from the cashless facility for inpatient treatment including treatment such as hemodialysis, Hip and knee replacement surgeries and free hearing aids through the Mahatama Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) and Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana Schemes. Tele-medicine services ’E-Sanjeevani’ services are being provided by our specialists to 53 PHC, 2 Sub-district hospitals and 11 rural hospitals in the rural Vidarbha region. The deliverance of quality clinical care and performance of complex surgeries is note-worthy and well-appreciated by patients availing of the hospital services made known through feedback on ‘Mera Aspatal’.
Amongst many first, AIIMS Nagpur is the first hospital in Central India to be equipped with a stateof-the-art Genome Sequencing lab. It has been designated as the Nodal Center for Influenza Surveillance and Regional Center for Monkeypox Surveillance. It is amongst the very few government hospitals in Central India to have conducted Bone Marrow transplants. Recently, under the National Tele Mental Health Programme (Tele MANAS), AIIMS Nagpur has been assigned as the Mentoring unit for 04 state Telemanas cells for the state of Maharashtra. It has also been designated a command centre for the Tele Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) Project at Dharni sub-district hospital in the tribal belt of Melghat. AIIMS Nagpur is the only government hospital in central India with unique wide imaging and angiography equipment. In the last one year, around 2000 heart patients have been treated at AIIMS by the Biplane Cardio Cath lab. The institute’s state-of-the-art Department of Nuclear Medicine, with its latest PET Scan machine, will be one of the first or possibly the only government hospital in the Vidarbha region to provide this facility. AIIMS Nagpur is one of the few or only hospitals to conduct hemodialysis in patients with Hepatitis B and C, retro-viral disease and COVID-19. Availability of separate COVID-19 dialysis units catered to the critically ill COVID patients requiring hemodialysis during the pandemic. The academically vibrant campus of AIIMS has started MBBS with its first batch of 50 students in 2018 to 125 students in 2022. Postgraduate programs have also been started in 16 departments and PhD programs in 11 departments. The College of Nursing, AIIMS Nagpur has also started the B.Sc. Nursing programme since last year. Facilities envisaged to be launched is the 30-bedded hemodialysis unit expansion, which will make it one of the largest hemodialysis units in the region. Super-speciality services such as Medical Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Renal transplant services and Eye bank are in the pipeline.
