Induction & Orientation for 2018-19 Batch

cpr3AIIMS Nagpur is being established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). It has been envisioned to train quality healthcare providers to provide comprehensive healthcare to people of not only Vidarbha but also other parts of Maharashtra and neighbouring districts of states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Being established as a premier institution it aims at correcting regional imbalance in the availability of affordable quality healthcare besides augmenting the quality medical education in India.

Moving a step closer to this dream, first batch of 50 students have been already admitted and their training starts from the present temporary campus of AIIMS Nagpur at GMC Nagpur. The objective of AIIMS Nagpur will be to impart medical education of highest standards so as to equip them to shoulder responsibility of providing a quality health care to masses.

As part of this an orientation and induction programme for the undergraduate batch 2018 was conducted at Auditorium at GMC Nagpur on 4th September 2018 at 11 AM. The chief guest for the function was Dr Abhimanyu Niswade, Dean, GMC Nagpur. The event was attended by faculty of AIIMS Nagpur, GMC Nagpur, parents and newly admitted students. The responsibility for overall conduct, coordination and organization of the event was with Dr Mrunal Phatak, Officiating Dean Academic & HOD Physiology, AIIMS Nagpur. The programme began by lamp lighting followed by welcome address by Lt Col Manoj Bakshi, Dy Dir (Admin). This was followed by address of all Heads of Department, AIIMS Nagpur. Dr Niswade, Dean GMC Nagpur exhorted all students to make full use of the opportunity they have got and become skilled, sensitive and compassionate doctors to serve the society. He also highlighted the virtues, challenges and responsibilities of this great profession and shared some of his experiences. Dr Niswade also laid out the future developmental plans for the GMC Nagpur including an ultramodern hematology and Cancer centre. The students were also administered oath to guide them about their responsibility as a doctor. The programme was compered by Dr. Vinu Vij who also proposed the vote of thanks.

This event marked the beginning of a promising glorious future of the institution to fulfill its objectives of providing quality medical education and affordable health care to needy population of the Vidarbha region. Setting up and beginning of first batch of undergraduate students at AIIMS Nagpur marks the fulfillment of commitment of the government towards people of Maharashtra and Vidarbha in particular of which a large population is tribal.
