The Department of Radiotherapy was established in February 2021 with a vision to provide centre of excellence in cancer patient care, academics, research and training. The department intends to provide ‘’State of Art’’ facilities to get best cancer treatment and result oriented cancer care in central INDIA.
Radiotherapy is a field of medicine that uses high doses of ionizing radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. It is effective treatment for all sorts of cancer such as head and neck cancer, lung cancer, brain tumor, breast cancer, gastrointestinal tumor, genitourinary malignancy, lymphoma, soft tissue sarcoma etc. There are two main types of radiation therapy, external beam and brachytherapy. External Beam Radiotherapy (EBRT), in which radiation beam are given to cancer area of the patient from outside and delivered by radiation machine (usually linear accelerator. EBRT involves several daily treatments (fractions) on an outpatient basis over the course of few days to a few weeks. Brachytherapy is a form of radiotherapy where a sealed radiation source is placed inside or next to the area requiring treatment. It can be used alone or in combination with EBRT and commonly used for cervical, prostate, breast, head & neck and skin cancer
