 Key Milestones & Achievements

Since its inception, the Department of Nephrology has grown steadily to provide comprehensive renal care, advanced dialysis services, and a robust kidney transplant program. Major milestones include:

 2020

  • October: Inception of the Department and initiation of Nephrology OPD services
  • November: First inpatient admission under Nephrology

2021

  • March: Establishment of the first Hemodialysis Unit in the OPD complex with state-of-the-art hemodialysis machines
  • May: Dedicated COVID Hemodialysis facility established for patients requiring renal replacement therapy

2022

  • February: AV fistula creation initiated in collaboration with the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) Department
  • April: Dialysis services for seropositive patients commenced
  • June: Plasmapheresis services started
  • July: Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) services initiated
  • September: Peritoneal Dialysis services launched

2023

  • 9th May: First Living Donor Kidney Transplant performed
  • 11th May: First Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant (Donation after Brain Death) successfully conducted
  • July: DM Nephrology postgraduate program started; first candidate inducted
  • October: Installation of a double-stage RO plant with heat disinfection facility for Hemodialysis and Hemodiafiltration
  • 3rd December: First Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant following Donation after Cardiac Death (DCD) performed - first such transplant in the state of Maharashtra

2024

  • April: Dialysis Technology Update organized for Dialysis Technicians and Nursing Officers
  • June: AV fistula creation services independently initiated by the Department of Nephrology
  • July: Peritoneal Dialysis services under the MJPJAY scheme started

2025

  • 13–17 January: First Transplant Coordinator Training Program organized in collaboration with ZTCC under the aegis of NOTTO
  • March: Umang 2025 — Patient Awareness and Engagement Program conducted
