AIIMS Nagpur Observes World Sepsis Week 2025 from September 9th to 13th
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur recently concluded a week-long awareness program on sepsis, a life-threatening condition that affects millions worldwide. The Department of Anaesthesiology, under the guidance of Executive Director Dr. Prashant P. Joshi, organized various activities from September 9th to 13th, 2025, to raise awareness about sepsis prevention and management.
The program commenced on September 9th with academic sessions for residents doctors and nursing students, followed by awareness drives for patients and relatives. On September 13th, World Sepsis Day, a special program was held at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur to educate engineering students about sepsis and its prevention.
Dr. Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director of AIIMS Nagpur, emphasized the institute's commitment to community health. He stated that AIIMS Nagpur will continue to promote awareness, prevention, and timely management of sepsis to save countless lives. He highlighted the importance of collective efforts in addressing this critical problem.
Dr. Gajanan N. Chavan, Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology with Dr Nand Kishore Joshi, as Convenor, led the initiative, emphasizing the importance of awareness, early recognition, and timely management of sepsis.
Dr. Nilesh G. Nagdeve, Medical Superintendent, highlighted the role of timely immunization and personal hygiene in reducing the risk of sepsis.
Globally, sepsis affects 47-50 million people annually and causes nearly 11 million deaths. In India, around 11.3 million cases occur each year with an estimated 2.9 million deaths, AIIMS Nagpur's efforts aim to promote awareness, prevention, and timely medical consultation. The institute remains committed to community health, striving to save lives through education and timely intervention.
