About Surgical Oncology

               The department of Surgical Oncology established in Year of August 2022. It started with initial screening of cancer patient with Surgical Procedure for Head and Neck Cancer, Breast Cancer Patient; with time it divested and expended in manpower as well as works. At present the departmental comprises of Expert Faculties who are well-trained and skilled in performing advanced cancer surgeries. They are further supported by senior residents and junior residents, and nursing staff dedicated to provide holistic cancer care to the patient. The department is currently providing surgical management of solid cancers belonging to the following systems:

  1. Head and Neck Cancers: Oral Cancers, Cancers of Paranasal Sinuses, Orbital tumours, Salivary Gland tumours, Laryngeal Cancers
  2. Breast Cancer:
  3. Endocrine Cancer: Thyroid, Parathyroid, Adrenal
  4. Thoracic and Mediastinal Cancers: Lung Cancer, Esophageal cancer, Neoplasms of Thymus
  5. Gastrointestinal and Hepatopancreatobiliary Cancers:  
  6. Colorectal Cancers
  7. Genitourinary Cancers
  8. Gynaecological Cancers
  9. Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma
  10. Skin Cancers
  11. Peritoneal Surfaces Malignancy and HIPEC

Vision and Mission

Our vision is to create a comprehensive cancer treatment hub at AIIMS, Nagpur which would act as the referral point for advanced and complicated cancers, which require expertise and high-end infrastructure for appropriate management. To achieve this vision in long-term, multiple initiatives currently being conducted and planned in the future include:

      • Providing quality evidence-based surgical care to cancer patients
      • Training of Surgical Oncologists: With a dedicated M.Ch. Program in Surgical Oncology, we aim at training the future cadre of cancer surgeons
      • Preventive healthcare: Promotion of awareness regarding risk factors and preventive screening of patients
      • Outreach and Public awareness programmes: To promote the awareness regarding cancer and its true nature amongst the general public.

      • Strengthening the Institutional Tumor Board
      • Collaboration with other Institutes of National Importance
