The Department of Trauma and Emergency at AIIMS Nagpur was established on 7th December 2021 with a commitment to providing immediate assessment and treatment for patients with medical, surgical, or trauma emergencies.

The department was formally inaugurated on 14th January 2022 by Hon’ble Director Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta, SM. Dedicated Trauma and Emergency services commenced on 13th February 2022, and the Trauma and Emergency Operation Theatre was inaugurated on 25th May 2023.

Clinical Services

• Delivery of rapid assessment and treatment for all emergency cases.
• Implementation of structured operational protocols for admission, management, and discharge of patients.
• Round-the-clock functioning with specialized facilities for trauma care.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

Academic Programs

The department plays a vital role in medical education and training:

• M.Ch Trauma Surgery and Critical Care course approved.
• M.D. Emergency Medicine course started in January 2023. The first postgraduate student successfully passed with distinction, and currently 11 PG students are enrolled.
• B.Sc. Emergency Medicine Technician (EMT) course commenced in March 2022.
• Regular teaching and training sessions for Nursing Officers engaged in emergency services.

Community Outreach

Beyond clinical and academic excellence, the department actively engages in public awareness and training initiatives:

• Organization of street plays to promote road safety.
• Conduct of First Responder Training Programs to empower the community in handling emergencies.
