…our mission

Dr Prashant P Joshi
The entire nation is in a mission mode to eliminate sickle anemia as a public health problem by 2047. AIIMS Nagpur is strategically located to take up leadership in this mammoth task as the central and state governments are sparing no efforts to engage all stakeholders and set a roadmap and timeline to achieve the targets. Sickle cell disease causes problems at all stages of life – high infant and maternal mortality rate is still an unfortunate reality, unpredictable and severe complications throughout life inflict huge socio-economic burden, add to the social stigma for the disease causing embarrassment to youngsters who are reluctant to come forward for community screening. These problems can only be tackled if there is a coordinated concerted effort to address the problems at every stage of the disease trajectory - From Prevention to Cure.
