About the department:
The Department of Medical Biotechnology at AIIMS Nagpur is in its formative stage and is being developed with a strong vision to integrate modern biotechnology with medical education, biomedical research, and translational healthcare applications. The department aims to serve as a multidisciplinary platform supporting teaching, research, diagnostics, and innovation in areas relevant to national health priorities.
The core focus of the department includes molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, nutraceutical research, gut microbiome studies, and biomarker discovery for non-communicable diseases, nutritional disorders, Alzheimer's, Neurological disorders and genetic diseases such as hemoglobinopathies. Emphasis is placed on translational research that bridges basic laboratory findings with clinical relevance, aligning with the mandate of AIIMS Nagpur as an Institute of National Importance.
Currently, the department is being strengthened in terms of infrastructure, laboratory facilities, and academic programs. Faculty members are actively involved in developing research proposals, collaborative projects, and academic curricula for future undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. The department also contributes to institutional teaching activities, research mentorship, and interdepartmental collaborations.
In the coming years, the department envisions establishing state-of-the-art laboratories, initiating funded research projects, launching postgraduate and PhD programs, and contributing significantly to publications, patents, and capacity building.
