About Department
Introduction:
The Department of Psychiatry at AIIMS, Nagpur has been providing comprehensive, holistic, evidence-based mental health services since its inception in September 2019. The department is providing regular OPD services, including speciality services like children and adolescents (School Mental Health Clinic), old age, de-addiction, and sexual health. In-patient services started in April 2021, along with consultation liason & teleconsultation services.
The department has been actively involved in the training and teaching of MBBS students and staff, with special emphasis on the development of clinical skills, communication skills and empathy. The Department started Post Graduate Course (MD) in Psychiatry in January 2022 session with one student admission allocated every six months.
Clinical Psychology and Psychometric Services started in August 2021. We have one clinical psychologist appointed for psychological assessment and testing of OPD and IPD patients.
The department is the Mentoring Unit for the State of Maharashtra in the Tele-MANAS project since October 2022 with four Tele-MANAS cells under our supervision.
We also have a monthly community outreach OPD on first Wednesday of every month at Bela PHC since October 2022.
The Department of Psychiatry has Tobacco Cessation Centre which was virtually inaugurated on 24th September 2024 and has secured approval for the Addiction Treatment Facility, which is functional from Deaddiction OPD.
On 10th October 2024 the department also inaugurated the second community outreach OPD at UHTC Nandanwan and the Sexual Health OPD.
The department organizes several awareness programs in the community, for patients and their caregivers, as well as students of the institute.
