  • To develop as a Centre of Excellence in teaching, training, outreach services, research and health management in Community Medicine and Public Health.
  • To invent a force of Public Health Experts having skills and abilities to evolve innovative health policies and programs for community development.

About Department


Community Medicine is a specialty that deals with the health of the people, the main objectives being the assessment of the health needs of the population and developing strategies to meet the needs of quality health services (preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative) through empowerment process. Department also works toward the discovery of new knowledge in public health. The department is engaged in teaching/training, service; and research in priority areas. In addition to the MBBS course and MD Community Medicine, the department plans to run various post-graduate courses, Ph.D., fellowship programs and workshops for capacity building of health manpower so that they have core public health competencies. Department also envisages to establish various intelligent platforms to act as a resource centre for health system solutions.

 

Field Practice Area

  • UHTC: The department has an urban field practice area catering to a population of around 80,000. In line with the MoU signed up with Nagpur Municipal Corporation the department supports the primary care activities of Nandanvan Urban Health Training Centre, Nagpur. Department is involved in delivering outpatient care, outreach camps, specialist care for maternal and child health issues, stress clinic, capacity building of front-line health workers & community-based organizations, raising health awareness in the community, implementation of healthy school initiative etc.
  • RHTC: Similarly, the department runs the rural health training centre with a field practice area catering to 23000 population spread across 36 villages at Bela, Nagpur. Department is providing outpatient care and monitoring of national programs implementation in the field practice area.
  • Vaccine Centre: The department runs a covid vaccination centre since January 2020 and envisages expanding the services for various other adult immunization.
