Department of General Medicine, AIIMS Nagpur hosted a comprehensive Continuing Medical Education (CME) conference on tuberculosis, addressing crucial issues related to the disease. The chief guest for the event was Dr. P. P. Joshi, Chief Patron, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Nagpur. Dr. Joshi provided valuable insights and shared his expertise on the challenges and opportunities in combating tuberculosis. Dr Mrunal Phatak, Dean Academics was the patron of the event.
The event featured 2 eminent speakers. Dr. Anurag Bhargava, Professor of Medicine at Yenopoya Medical College,Karnataka who was the Principal Investigator in Ration Trial which established the correlation between undernutrition and tuberculosis. In his illuminous talk he elaborated on it highlighting the challenges and important nutritional strategies for prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. The trial was acknowledged by ‘The Lancet’ journal as one of the key events in its 200-year publication history, and the evidence is being taken up by WHO in its guidelines on prevention of Tuberculosis. Dr Sunil Khaparde, Former Deputy Director General - TB, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; Senior Advisor, TB Alliance, NY, USA who played a major role in implementation of nutritional support to tuberculosis patients via Nikshay Poshan Yojana of Central Government, spoke on newer management strategies in multidrug resistant tuberculosis.
The organizing committee, led by Dr. Rajashree Khot, Additional Professor in the Department of General Medicine and Dr. Amol Dube Organizing Secretary, Associate Professor in the Department of General Medicine, worked diligently to orchestrate a seamless and informative event.
The conference attracted healthcare professionals, Dean Research and HOD community medicine, Dr Pradeep Deshmukh, researchers, and students interested in tuberculosis, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas. Participants gained valuable insights into the latest developments in the field. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Nilesh Kamble, Assistant Professor in Medicine. Faculty of General Medicine, Dr Bharat Rathod, Dr Udit Narang, Dr Keshao Nagpure, Dr Ishan Verma, Dr Onkar Awadhiya and other supporting staff worked hard for the success of the event. The program was conducted by Dr Sagar Sangole and Dr Mansi Khandelwal.
