Departments of ENT and Anatomy at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur, in association with AOI and HNS, Vidarbha, organized the 3rd Cadaveric Temporal Bone Dissection Workshop and Cochlear Implant CME on 28th February and 1st March 2026 to commemorate World Hearing Day 2026.
The workshop and CME was inaugurated by Executive Director AIIMS Nagpur Dr. (Prof) Prashant P. Joshi. The need of better patient care in hearing disability was emphasized. The roadmap of “Hearing for all” by AIIMS Nagpur was reviewed by the Executive Director on this occasion.
Four Cochlear Implant recipient kids implanted at AIIMS Nagpur were present at the time of inauguration and received gifts at the hands of Executive Director. Further, the need for hands on training by cadaveric dissection for post graduate students and young junior consultants for improving surgical skills was lauded by Dr. (Prof) Prashant P. Joshi. This year the theme for World Hearing Day 2026 is ‘From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children’. It is of utmost importance to spread awareness about prevention of avoidable childhood hearing loss and to diagnose and manage congenital hearing loss in children.
Dr. Vikas Gupta, guest faculty, professor in ENT from AIIMS Bhopal demonstrated the details of implant surgery on day 1 of the workshop on 28th February. This was followed by a CME with invited talks from Dr. Jeevan Vedi (Professor and Head, IGGMC Nagpur), Dr. Chetana Ratnaparkhi (Additional Professor in Radiodiagnosis, AIIMS Nagpur) and Dr. Vijay Bidkar on various topics.. This CME was awarded 4 MMC credit points and Dr. Madan Kapre was the MMC observer.
The event was organized and coordinated by Dr. Vijay Bidkar Professor & Head of ENT, Dr Sandeep Dabhekar, Additional Professor, Dr. Kiran Kumar Prathipati, Associate Professor, Dr Stuti Chowdhary Assistant Professor of ENT Department.
More than 60 delegates participated in the CME. Radiology of cochlear implants and candidacy criteria were discussed. Queries of the participants were addressed. The hands-on cadaveric dissection workshop was organized on 1st March 2026. Sixteen dissectors from various medical colleges in Vidarbha region performed steps of ear surgery and cochlear implant surgery on cadavers.
