AIIMS Nagpur held an appreciation ceremony to commemorate a significant achievement of crossing the milestone of 30 successful kidney transplants. This accomplishment marks a testament to the AIIMS Nagpur team's dedication, expertise, and commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services.
AIIMS Nagpur has performed 33 Kidney transplants so far which includes 25 deceased donation transplants and 8 living donor transplants. It is notable that AIIMS Nagpur was the first to perform the first Donation after Circulatory death Kidney Transplantation in the state of Maharashtra. This success was made possible by the seamless collaboration of the Nephrology, Urology, Anaesthesia, Emergency & Trauma surgery and other allied teams, demonstrating the institution's cohesive, multidisciplinary approach to organ transplantation.
These achievements at AIIMS Nagpur have not only placed the institution at the forefront of organ transplantation in the country but also established a model that could be emulated by several newly established AIIMS across India.
The event was graced by the presence of esteemed Executive Director, Dr (Prof) Prashant P. Joshi, and renowned Senior Transplant Surgeon, ZTCC President and President-elect Indian Society of Organ Transplantation, Dr. Sanjay Kolte, Kidney transplant Nodal officer AIIMS Nagpur, Prof Manish Shrigiriwar, and Medical Superintendent Dr Seema Parvekar. The program was also attended by Prof Gajanan Chavan, Head of the department of Anaesthesiology, Prof Mahendra Chauhan Head of the department of Emergency & Trauma, Dr Chandrakant Munjewar, Assistant professor and In-charge of the department of Urology, Dr Anand Chellappan, Associate Professor and In-charge of the department of Nephrology, Dr Rajashree Khot, Additional Professor, Department of Medicine and Dr Sucheta Meshram, Associate Professor and In-charge of surgical ICU. Various concerned team members were also present. Prof Manish Shrigiriwar highlighted the importance of team work in the success behind the Organ transplantation program at AIIMS Nagpur. Prof Prashant P Joshi felicitated Dr Sanjay Kolte and honoured him for mentoring the Kidney transplant program at AIIMS Nagpur. Dr Sanjay Kolte spoke about the importance of deceased donation and its profound impact in changing the lives of patients with organ failure and motivated the teams to continue enduring for the noble cause. Dr Amol Bhawane, Assistant Professor, Department of Nephrology concluded the program thanking the dignitaries and the attendees.
