Special Training Program for Orthopaedics Post Graduate Residents

The Department of Orthopaedics, AIIMS Nagpur, in collaboration with the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA), Trauma Society of India, and Nagpur Trauma Foundation, successfully hosted the IOA PG Teaching Course from 18th to 21st September 2025. The four-day program brought together 325 postgraduate orthopaedic students from 27 institutions across India, guided by 15 eminent national faculty members and 20 regional experts. This is first AIIMS in Central India who has conducted such training program for post graduate Orthopaedics residents.

The course was structured to enhance clinical acumen, improve examination skills, and build confidence among trainees. Sessions included case-based discussions, clinical demonstrations, didactic lectures, ward rounds, and open forums. A key feature was the mock examination, where 27 students underwent structured assessment by senior examiners, offering invaluable exposure to real examination scenarios.

Dr. Prashant Joshi, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Nagpur, stated, “We are proud to host this national-level academic initiative. It reflects our commitment to strengthening postgraduate training and contributing to academic excellence in orthopaedics.”

Dr. Samir Dwidmuthe, HOD & Organizing Chairman, highlighted, “This course focused on practical learning. The mock exam, clinical demonstrations, and interactive sessions ensured that students were better prepared for examinations and real-life clinical practice.”

Dr. Sushrut Babhulkar, Course Convener, added, “Postgraduate students need structured exam-oriented training. This course, with guidance from distinguished faculty, provided them the tools to master clinical reasoning and viva skills.” Dr Vinki Rughwani was chief guest for the valedictory function.

The successful execution of the program was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Saurabh Sah, Dr. Sitanshu Barik, Dr Prashant Bhavani, Dr. Ankush Mohabey, Dr. Amol Dubepuria, Dr. Mukund Madhav Ojha, and the staff of the Department of Orthopaedics, AIIMS Nagpur.
