Special Training Program for Orthopaedics Post Graduate Residents
The Department of Orthopaedics, AIIMS Nagpur, in collaboration with the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA), Trauma Society of India, and Nagpur Trauma Foundation, successfully hosted the IOA PG Teaching Course from 18th to 21st September 2025. The four-day program brought together 325 postgraduate orthopaedic students from 27 institutions across India, guided by 15 eminent national faculty members and 20 regional experts. This is first AIIMS in Central India who has conducted such training program for post graduate Orthopaedics residents.
The course was structured to enhance clinical acumen, improve examination skills, and build confidence among trainees. Sessions included case-based discussions, clinical demonstrations, didactic lectures, ward rounds, and open forums. A key feature was the mock examination, where 27 students underwent structured assessment by senior examiners, offering invaluable exposure to real examination scenarios.

Dr. Samir Dwidmuthe, HOD & Organizing Chairman, highlighted, “This course focused on practical learning. The mock exam, clinical demonstrations, and interactive sessions ensured that students were better prepared for examinations and real-life clinical practice.”
Dr. Sushrut Babhulkar, Course Convener, added, “Postgraduate students need structured exam-oriented training. This course, with guidance from distinguished faculty, provided them the tools to master clinical reasoning and viva skills.” Dr Vinki Rughwani was chief guest for the valedictory function.
The successful execution of the program was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Saurabh Sah, Dr. Sitanshu Barik, Dr Prashant Bhavani, Dr. Ankush Mohabey, Dr. Amol Dubepuria, Dr. Mukund Madhav Ojha, and the staff of the Department of Orthopaedics, AIIMS Nagpur. Dr Ganesh Pundkar, Dr Nitin Kimmatkar, Dr Ashutosh Apte were part of the organizing team.
The course concluded with a valedictory session, where 18 prizes were awarded, including three for quiz winners, recognizing outstanding student participation. The IOA PG Teaching Course at AIIMS Nagpur has set a benchmark in postgraduate orthopaedic training, combining academic rigor, practical exposure, and mentorship to prepare confident future specialists.
