AIIMS Nagpur starts Clubfoot Clinic in collaboration with Anushkaa Foundation on 19th January 2024

AIIMS Nagpur is pleased to announce the starting of Clubfoot Clinic in collaboration with Anushkaa foundation.  The event signifies a significant step towards providing specialized care and support for children affected by clubfoot. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed by Prof Dr Hanumantha, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS, Nagpur with a NGO Anushkaa Foundation.

Prof. Dr. Mrunal Phatak, Dean Academics, Prof Dr Manish Shrigiriwar, Medical Superintendent and Prof Dr Samir Dwidmuthe from AIIMS, Nagpur and  Mr Ashish Bhadoriya, Project Manager and Mr. Paras Kale, Site coordinator from Anushkaa Foundation, Mr. Patil, JSW Foundation were present during the function. 

 The event was marked by a public awareness program among the outpatients visiting the Orthopedics OPD at AIIMS Nagpur. Dr Sitanshu Barik, Associate Professor in Orthopedics, explained regarding the need for early detection and initiation of treatment for favourable results. The clinic shall function on all Fridays from 9am to 1pm.

Clubfoot is a commonly seen foot deformity at birth. The condition is completely treatable but due to social stigma and lack of awareness lot of these patients did not undergo any treatment.  They need multiple plaster cast application followed by corrective braces till the age of 5 years. Anushkaa Foundation is a Mumbai-based NGO working for treatment of clubfoot in children with support from JSW foundation. The treatment of such children at the AIIMS, Nagpur clubfoot clinic shall be free of charge.   

The partnership between AIIMS Nagpur and the Anushkaa Foundation emphasizes the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing healthcare challenges. The Clubfoot Clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated team of healthcare professionals specializing in pediatric orthopedics, physical therapy, and other relevant fields. The clinic adopts a holistic approach, focusing on early intervention, personalized treatment plans, and ongoing support to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients. In addition to clinical services, the collaboration includes community outreach programs to raise awareness about clubfoot, its treatment options, and the importance of early detection.

Prof Dr Samir Dwidmuthe said that “The Clubfoot Clinic aims to address the unique healthcare needs of individuals with clubfoot, a congenital condition affecting the alignment of the foot. Through this collaboration, AIIMS Nagpur and the Anushkaa Foundation are committed to providing comprehensive and multidisciplinary care to enhance the quality of life for those impacted by clubfoot”. Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao congratulated the Department of Orthopedics for initiating the services for needy patients. Dr. Manish Shrigiriwar emphasized need to screen all the new born babies in the region for presence of clubfoot deformity so that treatment can be initiated as early as possible.
