The College of Nursing, AIIMS Nagpur organized the first national workshop on January 8th and 9th, 2024 followed by a short course on "Research Essentials" from 10-14 January, 2024. Ms. Gigni George, Ms. Komathi, Ms. Usha Chakali, and Mr. Aljo Joy, faculty of the Nursing college, made up the organising committee, along with Chairperson, Dr. Rajini Peter, Professor cum Principal and organizing secretary, Mr. Abin Varghese, Assistant professor, College of Nursing.
Fifty-four participants from across the nation attended the workshop. Dr. Deepika C. Khakha, Nursing Advisor, MoHFW, Government of India, gave a congratulatory video message. Dr. Suresh K Sharma, Professor and Principal of the College of Nursing, AIIMS Jodhpur inaugurated the programme. Distinguished academics of national repute, including Drs. Suresh K Sharma, Santu Ghosh, Akilagunta Sujiv, Amol Dongre, Rajini Peter, Lata T, have shared their insights on a range of topics, such as sample size calculation, exploratory factor analysis, non-parametric testing, logistic regression, grant proposal writing, and linear regression. Hands-on practices in a range of statistical techniques were also held. During the closing ceremony, prizes for the e-poster competition and participation certificates were given out.
The workshop was followed by a 5-day short course on research essentials. Faculty from a number of prestigious institutes led the sessions. Clinical nursing research, research problem formulation, technology and nursing research, literature search and CTRI, digital tools for data collection, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and ethics in nursing research were all covered in the expert sessions. The participants were split up into five groups to work in groups on preparing research proposals under the guidance of nursing college faculty. On the last day, every group gave a presentation of their proposal, and received helpful critique. All in all, the participants acquired comprehensive understanding of the essentials of research methodology, and the course ended with the valedictory session.
