World Schizophrenia Day 2024

The Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS Nagpur, in collaboration with the Department of Physiology, organized an awareness program and a “Lifestyle intervention camp” for patients with schizophrenia on "World Schizophrenia Day". The camp was inaugurated on 22nd May 2024 at the hands of chief guest Dr. (Prof.) Prashant Joshi, Executive Director of AIIMS Nagpur. Dr. Mrunal Phatak, Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology was the guest of honour. Dr. Nitin Marathe, Associate Professor in Hospital Administration also attended as guest.

The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Suyog Jaiswal, Additional Professor Department of Psychiatry AIIMS Nagpur. Dr. Prashant Joshi stressed on the importance of taking care of one’s physical health including ensuring a healthy diet, while Dr. Mrunal Phatak provided guidance on lifestyle modifications and briefed regarding the functioning of Lifestyle Intervention Clinic, AIIMS Nagpur.

Dr. Sayalee Daberao (Assistant Professor, TMMU, AIIMS Nagpur), Mrs. Abhilasha Thakur (Clinical Psychologist), and Ms. Diksha Sadar (Psychiatric Social Worker, TMMU, AIIMS Nagpur) addressed the attendees on common symptoms of Schizophrenia and available treatment options. The event aimed to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with schizophrenia. The lifestyle intervention camp is expected to benefit the patients significantly. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Sreelakshmi V., Associate Professor of Psychiatry, AIIMS Nagpur.
