Nagpur [18.09.2024] – AIIMS Nagpur has inaugurated a new endoscopy room under the Department of Medical Gastroenterology at the hands of Executive Director Dr Prashant Joshi, further enhancing its capabilities to provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services. The event was graced by Dr. Rutwik Loya, Assistant Professor and Faculty in Charge of Medical Gastroenterology, Mr. Vijay Kumar Nayak, Deputy Director (Admin), Dr. Nitin Marathe, Joint Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Rounak Dubey, Deputy Medical Superintendent and faculty from other departments.

The new endoscopy facility will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, offering a range of procedures that are vital for diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal conditions. These include upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopies and lower GI endoscopies. Plans are in place to soon expand these services to include Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS, cutting-edge techniques for managing complex liver, bile duct, and pancreatic diseases.

The addition of the endoscopy unit benefits the patients of Vidarbha, Maharashtra, and neighboring Madhya Pradesh, who now have access to advanced diagnostic care close to home. Endoscopy procedures, such as those for gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, tumors, polyps, and inflammatory bowel disease, help in early diagnosis and treatment, significantly improving patient outcomes. This not only enhances quality of life but also prevents complications that arise from delayed interventions.

Dr. Prashant Joshi emphasized the importance of this new facility in improving healthcare delivery in the region. "This is a key milestone for AIIMS Nagpur. The new endoscopy unit will provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services to our local population and neighboring states, ensuring timely and affordable care."
