National Kidney Day 2025

A special event “Umang” was organized by the Department of Nephrology, AIIMS, Nagpur under the leadership of Executive Director Prof. P. P. Joshi, Deputy Director Administration Mr. Vijaykumar Nayak, Medical Superintendent Dr. Seema Parvekar and Nursing Superintendent Dr. Latika Bajaj on the occasion of World Kidney Day 2025 with the theme of “Are Your Kidneys OK? – Detect early, protect kidney health”.

The program started with lamp lightening and Saraswati Vandana with the welcome note by Dr. Amol Bhawane, Assistant Professor, Nephrology followed by information about the WKD 2025 and significance of ‘Umang’ by Dr. Anand Chellappan, Associate professor and In-charge of the department of  Nephrology. Prof. P. P. Joshi then addressed the gathering of more than 50 patients and their relatives with his words of wisdom on kidney health and ways of prevention of kidney disease. He emphasised in his speech on the importance of control of diabetes ad hypertension and early detection of kidney disease by regular health checkups.

The program had an important highlight of speech on “My experience” by Mr. Ravi Kumar followed by a sweet song “Kar har maidaan fateh” sung by Mrs. Pragya Dhule and an excellent dance performance by Miss. Khushi Khare on 3 songs. All were patients with kidney disease on hemodialysis. A child kidney warrior Arjun Chaudhary was also actively involved. Posters prepared by various patients and hospital staff were presented and appreciated by the dignitaries and best 3 amongst were felicitated. The vote of thanks and acknowledgement was proposed by Dr. Manoj A. Dhanorkar, Assistant Professor, Nephrology.

A skit by the dialysis technician and senior resident Dr. Ravi Kumar Meena of the department shed a light on benefit of early detection of kidney disease by blood and urine tests. The event also saw 3 major games been played by kidney disease patients and the winners received gift hampers.
