The Department of Orthopaedics at AIIMS Nagpur has been instrumental in providing comprehensive care for paediatric orthopaedic conditions. In January 2024, the department, in collaboration with the Anushkaa Foundation, established a specialized clubfoot clinic to offer free treatment to affected children. This initiative aims to address the unique needs of children with clubfoot, emphasizing early detection and intervention. The clinic operates every Friday from 9 am to 1 pm and has been pivotal in raising awareness about the condition and providing multidisciplinary care. Since the inception of the collaboration, AIIMS Nagpur, in partnership with the foundation, has successfully treated 60 children, with cumulative clinic visits reaching approximately 300 to date.
In the past year alone, the team led by Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Sitanshu Barik has performed over 120 paediatric orthopaedic surgeries, including 75 surgeries for congenital deficiencies such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), and congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV), as well as for developmental disorders like Perthes disease and various deformity correction procedures. These achievements reflect the department's growing expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality, specialized orthopedic care to children in the region.
The department offers a range of services, including outpatient and inpatient care, surgical interventions such as joint replacement, arthroscopy, deformity correction, and tumor surgeries. Specialty clinics focusing on arthritis and joint replacement, sports medicine, and spine disorders are also operational, reflecting the department's commitment to delivering state-of-the-art orthopaedic care.
