The Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre at AIIMS Nagpur was inaugurated on 23rd April 2026. The inauguration was carried out by the Executive Director, Dr. Prashant P. Joshi, together with APHO Nagpur, Dr. Aradhana Bhargava,and the Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Dr. Pradeep Deshmukh.
The Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, had approved AIIMS Nagpur as a Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in helping beneficiaries develop immunity against yellow fever, thereby enabling safe travel to endemic countries and preventing the entry of yellow fever into India. It is mandatory for individuals travelling to countries in Africa and South America, which are endemic for yellow fever. They can avail of this vaccination service.
Yellow fever is a vector-borne disease caused by an arbovirus of the Flavivirus genus and is transmitted by Aedes species mosquitoes. While India is not an endemic country for yellow fever, several countries in Africa and South America continue to report the disease.
The Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre has been established at the Adult Immunisation Clinic, Room No. 24, Ground Floor (IPD Block), AIIMS Nagpur. Individuals seeking vaccination are required to first register by filling out the Google Form: https://forms.gle/ecMGBuEUX7vK5TfX9. After verification of eligibility, confirmation is communicated via email or phone call regarding the scheduled vaccination date.
On the day of vaccination, beneficiaries are required to bring a signed consent form along with proof of travel, such as a passport, previous medical records.
The registration timing for the vaccination centre is from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the vaccination session is conducted from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Thursdays, excluding Government holidays. The cost of vaccination is Rs.300/-, and the OPD registration fee is Rs. 10/-. Beneficiaries must first register at the outpatient counter, followed by eligibility verification. Upon confirmation, payment is made and the vaccine is administered.
All vaccinated individuals are observed for 30 minutes post-vaccination. A valid certificate of vaccination is then issued. The vaccination becomes effective after the 10th day and remains valid for the lifetime of the individual.
Dr. Prashant Joshi, Executive Director, AIIMS Nagpur, mentioned that this initiative marks an important step in strengthening preventive healthcare services and supporting international travel safety in central India. The Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre at AIIMS Nagpur will benefit the travellers to African and Latin American countries from Maharashtra as well as neighboring states like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
